Group Memberships Approved at AFM Convention!
At the recent biannual AFM convention in Las Vegas, an exciting new initiative was ratified by the delegates. Now existing bands can join the AFM as a group without paying the national and local initiation fees. The same applies to existing groups - if you are playing with non-Union players in your group, they can also join without paying the initiation fees.:
This is important to you for four reasons:
  • Groups with higher percentages of AFM members receive preference on gig referrals.
  • The more members we have, the stronger and more influential Local 75 - and the AFM - is.
  • Having more members also provides us with the resources to continue to expand our services to members, while sharing the fixed costs and keeping dues low.
  • For each new member you refer to the AFM, you receive a $25 referral credit to your own account.
If you would like to have assistance in recruiting prospective members, please contact the Local. We'll be happy to call the prospect, send them materials, or assist in any other way that we can. In the final analysis, this is your Local. When we use qualified Union musicians first - when we can grow our Local and the AFM - we're helping ourselves. Our membership has increased by 60% in the last five years. Let's keep it going and grow another 60%!
Local 75 was represented at the convention by Secretary-Treasurer John Kendeigh, who was also elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Midwest Conference of locals.
